Céline Cuvelier (born 1988, BE, lives and works in Brussels) is a visual artist. Through her artistic research, she is personally involved in a working and reciprocal relationship with people detained in prisons and refugees in camps, in order to confront the realities of those who live on the edge of our societies.

Céline Cuvelier (BE, °1988) lives and works in Brussels.

She holds a Bachelor's degree in psychology from the Université Libre de Bruxelles. In 2011, she enrolled at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels and graduated with a Master's degree in Painting in 2016.

Between painting, sculpture and installation, Céline Cuvelier's work deals with the unvarnished reality of those who experiment with the limits of our societies. Not hesitating to get her foot in the door, she tackles the violent chaos of the world through her personal involvement with marginalized groups (prisons, migrant camps, psychiatric universe) while conducting a visual reflection on the use of the main contemporary media. Upon graduating from the Beaux-Arts, she completed a one-year residency at the Moonens Foundation and participated in numerous group exhibitions including The Other Stoic Comedian at ÉTÉ 78.

In 2017, she received the Joaris Goffinet grant from the King Baudoin Foundation and completed a residency organised by the Fond Félicien Rops at the Château de Thozée. The same year, she took part in the auction A Garden Party at the Dhondt-Dhaenens Museum and also held her first solo exhibition in Brussels at the Penthouse Art Residency. In 2018, she received a grant from the Vocatio Foundation and went to Hanoi for a residency at LiveMakeShare. That year, she also participated in several exhibitions including Generation Brussels at the Vandenborg Buildings, Berlin Alexanderplatz at ETE78 and the Médiatine prize exhibition.

In 2019, she leaves for China where she carries out research in partnership with the Offshore School in Shanghai and also participates in the Something Beautiful exhibition at La Vallée in Brussels. In 2020, she exhibited in Brussels at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, during the Inside/Out exhibition and in Antwerp at the DMW gallery. In 2021, she received the Un Futur pour la culture grant from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and held two solo exhibitions. The first exhibition Double Bind Smile took place at the Centre Tour à Plomb in January and the second exhibition, entitled Jetlag Dream, was held in the Botanique gallery in February. In 2021 and 2022, she also participated in various group exhibitions, including at the Korean Cultural Centre and at the Marie-Laure Fleisch Gallery in Brussels.
