How can archives reconcile their own study and conservation needs, artistic approaches and public sensibilities?

20230119 154301

How are artists appropriating archives today?

What is the place of the institution and the archive in these contemporary artistic approaches?
How can institutions build bridges between different modes of research?
Where do the limits and impassable markers of plastic research lie in relation to the characteristics of the archive?
These are all open questions that artists are asking themselves, as well as archivists and all the actors in the socio-cultural milieu who are multiplying the relations between the scientific and artistic milieus. The archive tends to open its doors more and more to the public, reinforcing meetings, residencies and exhibitions. And from a new angle, the public discovers the archive in a renewed form, through the eyes of plastic research and fictionalization.

These questions will be addressed in the company of Claire Ducène, visual artist and curator of the exhibition Memories Gone Wild, and Julie Nio, in charge of artistic and cultural programming at the Archives de Bordeaux Métropole.
