Farfara Archives

Farfara Archives is a collection of artefacts belonging to five historical figures, spanning nearly three centuries. The collection presents all possible evidence of the existence of the island of Farfara, which is located off the coast of Malta and appears on several maps dating from the 17th century.

Then, Farfara Island has disappeared from maps, but its name occasionally appears in some texts up to the first half of the 19th century. After extensive research, a blurred picture begins to emerge of an obscure and mysterious atoll which, although small, may have played a vital role in Mediterranean geopolitics, as the fourth (inhabited) island of the Maltese archipelago.

Élise Billiard Pisani is an anthropologist (born 1979, FR, lives and works in France) & Margerita Pulè (born 1976, MT, lives and works in Malta) is a visual artist and curator. They are both dedicated to the culture and identity of the Maltese archipelago. Together they recently commissioned the exhibition The Ordinary Lives of Women (Spazju Kreattiv, Malta).
